PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY DRUG POLICY COALITION, INC. “EMPOWERING FUTURE LEADERS” SCHOLARSHIP BREAKFAST

The Prince George’s County Drug Policy Coalition, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of the “Empowering Future Leaders Scholarship” for the 2013- 2014 academic year. This year, the Coalition will award 15 scholarships worth $1,000 each to deserving high school seniors and college students in District 8. 

Mistress of Ceremonies will be Ms. Lesli Foster, Channel 9 News anchor

Dr. Mickey L. Burnim, President, Bowie State University, Guest Speaker 


"We are trying to give students an opportunity to demonstrate what they can do to improve the community and realize their goals," said Dr. Valencia Campbell, President of the Prince George’s County Drug Policy Coalition, Inc.  "We want to help them pursue their dreams so they can avoid getting involved in negative activities." Council Member Obie Patterson added, “In these tough financial times, with student loan debt exceeding credit card debt in our nation, scholarships such as these are a tremendous help to families in need.”

A committee established by the Coalition chose the 15 scholarship winners. Each applicant’s commitment to the community served as a major determining factor in the selection process. The committee also chose the winners on the basis of personal circumstances and achievements, educational goals, and the likely impact of the scholarship on their lives.
